Household waste recycling centres

Locations

Our household waste recycling centres accept a wide range of items for recycling or safe disposal, but if you have large items at home that you no longer need and are still in good condition, you can have them collected by an organisation listed on . You might also find our local 91Ô´´ Re-use Tool helpful. Find out  more generally.

Only 91Ô´´ residents can use our recycling centres at

  • Seafield HWRC, 76 Seafield Road,EH6 7LW
  • Craigmillar HWRC, Old Dalkeith Road, EH16 4TB
  • Sighthill HWRC, Bankhead Avenue, EH11 4EA.

You can walk, cycle or drive in by car or short term hire vehicle, however pedestrian access is currently suspended for safety reasons at Craigmillar. Pedestrian access continues as normal at Seafield and Sighthill.

We're making changes to van and trailer access to household waste recycling centres from Monday 25 August 2025. This will help to prevent improper use of the sites to dispose of commercial waste, which is in part paid for by Council Tax payers. Please see below for more information. Van and trailer users who don't bring the appropriate documentation to the household waste recycling centre will not be allowed into the site.

Our recycling centres are available for those who have booked appointments only. This means

  • there's fewer queues on site and on surrounding roads
  • an overall faster experience for all
  • it's less crowded so people can move around more easily.

You don't need to book if you're coming on foot with small amounts of materials. Please make sure you use the paths provided.

Opening hours and planned site closures

  • all recycling centres are normally open seven days a week for booked slots only
  • until Sunday 24 August 2025, trailer and van users can only book half hours visits from 8.30am until 10am
  • from Monday 25 August 2025, trailer and van users can only book half hour visits at 11:00am, 12.30pm and 14:30pm
  • emergencies or severe weather may cause the centres to close at short notice
  • there will be some site closures due to staff training in early August. We're sorry for any inconvenience this causes you, but we'll close off the booking slots at these times before they are released to book, so they won't affect any booking you do make.
